BUSNA establishes Advisory Board
The board of Birdshot Uveitis Society of North America is pleased to announce the creation of an advisory board. The BUSNA Board of Directors recognized earlier this year that there are supporters and stakeholders who are willing to give critical assistance and mentorship to our organization.
According to President Christine Griffith, “mentorship in the areas of marketing, donor relations, and fundraising” will help us grow to the next level. Those invited to serve on the newly formed advisory board have “outstanding experience in these areas, and are birdshot patients themselves.”
The four high level professionals who have graciously accepted BUSNA’s invitation to serve in this capacity are Anne Overhoff, a Chief Nurse Executive, George Schweitzer, a Chief Marketing Officer in the media industry, Linda K. Berdine, an award-winning executive with vast experience in the Information Technology sector, and Meredith Cross, a partner in a law firm that specializes in securities and corporate governance law who, with her husband Mark, established the Jennifer E. Thorne Birdshot Research Fund in 2013. They will provide their professional expertise, diverse knowledge, mentorship, and connections to local, national and international resources. They will also help us improve our nonprofit management and fundraising skills.

The BUSNA Advisory Board is structured so that its 2 to 5 members are elected by BUSNA’s Board of Directors. It also includes one member of BUSNA’s board, Liz Cohen, who will serve as liaison. The Advisory Board will schedule and run its own meetings, and will meet at least once per year.
On Tuesday, May 9, BUSNA’s Board of Directors met with the new Advisory Board members via Zoom and discussed our organization’s projects, its direction for the future, and Birdshot Day 2024. We were thrilled to welcome Meredith to the board in June. We’re grateful to Anne, George, Linda and Meredith for their enthusiasm and generosity of service, and know that our entire birdshot community will benefit from their guidance.
